Ukraine Steps Up Attacks On Russia As Its Forces Struggle Across The Front (Videos)

On August 9, Ukraine made another attempt to attack the Moscow region with suicide drones, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“An attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack by unmanned aerial vehicles over the territory of the Moscow Region was thwarted during the night. Two drones were shot down by air defense systems,” the ministry said in a statement.

The attempted drone attack on Moscow did not result in any casualties or material damage, the ministry added in its statement.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported via Telegram that air defense systems shot down two drones in the vicinity of the Domodedovo-Minskoye highway overnight.

Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory were not limited to Moscow. Bolograd governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on August 9 that Kiev forces fired about 115 shells at towns and villages in the region over the past 24 hour.s

“Seven artillery shells were fired at the outskirts of the village of Kolotilovka, Krasnoyaruzhsky District and another two at the outskirts of the village of Prilesye. There were no serious consequences,” the governor wrote on Telegram.

Gladkov added that 13 artillery shells were fired at the village of Nekhoteyevka, Belgorod District; ten artillery shells were fired at the village of Zhuravlyovka and five at the village of Krasny Khutor. The village of Shchetinvoka also came under Ukrainian fire, hit by 11 artillery shells and 58 grenade rounds, according to the governor.

“A grenade was dropped on the village of Naumovka by a drone … There were no casualties or damage in either of the villages,” he said.

The repeated attacks on Russian territory may be an attempt to deflect from the failure of Ukraine’s counteroffensive and the heavy losses Kiev forces are sustaining every day across the frontline.

Tsentr Group of Forces announced on August 9 that its units had repelled six Ukrainian attacks in the Svatovo and Krasny Liman directions. Kiev forces lost about 60 troops, an infantry fighting vehicle, an armored vehicle and two pickup trucks, according to the group.

TOS-1A multiple rocket launchers of the group also targeted a command and observation post, two temporary deployment points and a stronghold of Kiev forces close to Chervonaya Dibrova and the Serebryansky forest.

In the Kupyansk direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces captured four strongholds and five observation posts from Kiev Kiev forces. The group also destroyed a British-made Spartan armored personnel carrier, an ammunition depot and defeated an infantry company from the 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade in the Mankovka tract.

Moreover, the group repelled nine counterattacks by units from the 67 and 14 separate mechanized brigades near Sinkovka and in the Mankovka tract. An infantry platoon was neutralized during the fighting.

Another attack by Kiev forces was repelled by the group close to Novoselovskoe. An infantry platoon and one infantry fighting vehicle were destroyed there.

The group’s artillery also destroyed three 120 mm mortars Novoselovskoye and Petropavlovka as well as an American-made M777 towed howitzer near Kupyansk.

Meanwhile, the Russian Yug Group of Forces announced that its bombers had carried out a series of strikes with UPAB-500 guided bombs against temporary deployment point of Ukraine’s 3rd Separate Air Assault Brigade near Belaya Gora as well as against a field command post, ammunition depot and a gatherings of the 5th Separate Mechanized Brigade close to Ivanovka.

The group’s fighter bombers also targeted a temporary deployment point of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade in Dzerzhinsk as well as a command and observation post of the 3rd Battalion of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade near Krasnogorovka. More airstrikes targeted Kiev forces in Lisichansky, Soledaro-Artemovsky and Mariinsky directions.

In addition, the artillery of the group hit a ZU-23 anti-aircraft gun and an SPG-9 recoilless gun near Vyemka and Pesetskoye as well as a number of pickup trucks in Verkhnekamensky, Krasny, Druzhba and Lastochkino.

Artillery strikes also destroyed a D-30 towed howitzers in Vyemka, Msta-B towed howitzers in Konstantinovka, a D-20 towed howitzer close to Ostroy and an American-made M-777 towed howitzer in Nikolaevka .

Moreover, the group’s Tornado-S multiple rocket launch systems carried out a series of strikes against gatherings of manpower and equipment in Selidovo. Several other gatherings near Kleshchievka and Maloilinovka were targeted with TOS-1A launchers.

The group also destroyed an American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and a tank near Artemovsk with Lancet loitering munitions. Other attack drones were used to target an infantry group, a stronghold and an ammunition storage area close to Bogdanovka, Chasov Yar and Krasnoe.

Meanwhile, Russian news sources shared videos showing recent strikes with FPV suicide drones against positions and equiptment of Kiev forces on several directions.

Ukraine launched its counteroffensive more than nine weeks ago. Despite sustaining heavy losses, Kiev forces are still bogged down kilometers away from the Russian military’s main lines of defense in several directions. The recent attacks on Russian territory are not changing the situation on the battlefield.
