On July 31, the acting head of the DPR Denis Pushilin assessed the situation on the fronts, where, according to him, positional battles continue. Amid the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive, Russian forces “have achieved certain successes,” including on the southern fronts. Pushilin said that Russian military had ousted the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the village of Staromayorskoe.

The Russian military was forced to retreat from Staromayorskoe three days ago amid major attacks by the AFU. However, the Ukrainian military also failed to gain a foothold in the village, and reportedly retreated to its northern outskirts. Soon, Russian forces launched counterattacks in the area.

Russian successes are confirmed by reports from the front by both Russian and Ukrainian military sources. Ukrainian forces were recently repelled from Staromayorskoe.
However, the village remains in a gray zone and none of the warring sides can claim full control over its ruins.

After the AFU entered Staromayoskoe, they shared the following videos, claiming the destruction of Russian military equipment and showing the ruins of the village:

Like other settlements south of Velikaya Novoselka, Staromayorskoye is located in a lowland, and it is difficult to hold defence there if the enemy controls the heights on the flanks. Taking advantage of the terrain, the Russian artillery continues shelling the surroundings, not allowing the AFU to pull reserves to the area.

In its turn, the Ukrainian military already has the bitter experience of fighting for small villages in the Zaporozhye region, where they lost tens of thousands of fighters and expensive military equipment. In order to avoid the destruction of another grouping of forces, the Ukrainian command did not waste forces to push through the Russian defense and strengthen stronghold in Staromayorsky. They are concentrating forces and trying to demine the eastern flank of the Russian grouping. A major attack on Russian positions near Urozhainoe is expected in the coming days. At the moment, the village is under Russian control, but after the Russians lost control of Staromayorsky, the risk of the Ukrainian attempts to pincer Urozhainoe is growing.

Ukrainian artillery is now heavily shelling the village. On the night of July 31, Russian forces repelled another Ukrainian attack in the area.

While the Kiev regime is looking for excuses to explain the defeats on the southern frontlines, convincing its people and the audience of the MSM that Ukrainian victories are yet to come, the lack of gains and horrific losses are having an increasing impact on Ukrainian servicemen. As a result, entire Ukrainian units surrender on the Zaporozhie frontlines.

Russian Airborne forces, together with the special forces of the DPR “Cascade”, recently conducted a successful counterattack in Staromayorskoye and captured a unit of the AFU. The Russian fighters knocked out the enemy from the advanced positions, destroying and capturing the AFU unit which was defending the stronghold.

The Ukrainian military is transferring reinforcements in an attempt to take control of Staromayorskoe. Fighting for the village and heavy artillery duels continue. The Ukrainian military is trying to contain Russian counterattacks, while Russian forces are not allowing the Ukrainian military to gain a foothold in the area and are destroying  manpower and equipment of the AFU.
