Russian Army, Security Forces Deal More Blows To Kiev (18+ Videos)
The Russian military repelled another wave of Ukrainian attacks and inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces in several directions, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense briefing on August 16.
In the Kupyansk direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces carried out offensive actions and improved the situation along the frontline. The group also repelled nine attacks by the 14th, 32nd, 44th mechanized and 95th Air Assault Brigades of Kiev forces close to Novoselovskoye, Stelmakhovka, Olshana and Sinkovka.
The ministry said that Ukrainian losses in this direction amounted to 85 troops, two armored fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks as well as two self-propelled howitzers: an American-made M109 Paladin and a Polish-made Krab.
Meanwhile in the Donetsk direction, the Russian Yug Group of Forces repelled five Ukrainian attacks near Krasnogorovka and Nevelskoye. The group also destroyed an ammunition depot of Ukraine’s 24th Mechanised Brigade near Toretsk.
250 Ukrainian troops, three infantry fighting vehicles, four vehicles, an American-made M777 towed, two D-20 towed howitzers and an American-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-battery radar were destroyed in this direction, according to the ministry’s briefing.
In the Krasny Liman direction, the Russian Tsentr Group of Forces repelled an attack by the 67th Mechanised Brigade of Kiev forces near Kuzmino. Up to 55 Ukrainian troops, two armored fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles and a D-30 howitzer towed were destroyed.
And in the South Donetsk direction, the Russian Vostok Group of Forces carried out a series of artillery and rocket strikes against Kiev forces near Staromayorskoye.
According to the ministry, 140 Ukrainian troops, two tanks, three armored fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles and an American-made M109 self-propelled howitzer were neutralized during the fighting in this direction.
In the Zaporozhye direction, two attacks by Ukraine’s 82nd Air Assault Brigade were repelled close to Rabotino and Verbovoye. Moreover, two ammunition depots of the 117th Mechanised Brigade were destroyed near Kirovo.
Kiev forces lost up to 170 troops, three armored fighting vehicles, two motor vehicles and an American-made M777 towed howitzer in this direction, the ministry said.
In addition, 35 Ukrainian troops and five motor vehicles were neutralized as a result of Russian army fire in the Kherson direction.
The Russian MoD also provided the following details during its briefing:
Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Group of Forces have engaged AFU manpower and hardware in 143 areas during the day.
In addition, an ST-68 radar station for the detection, identification and tracking of aerial targets was destroyed close to Pervomaiskoye (Nikolayev region).
A command post of the AFU 72nd Mechanised Brigade was eliminated close to Paraskoveyevka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Air defense systems have shot down one Su-25 airplane of Ukrainian Air Force near Novotroitskoye (Donetsk People’s Republic).
In addition, four HIMARS and two Uragan projectiles have been intercepted during the day.
Moreover, 26 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles have been downed close to Tavolzhanka, Tokarevka (Kharkov region), Severodonetsk, Lisichansk, Svatovo (Lugansk People’s Republic), Spornoye, Volnovakha, Gorlovka and Makeyevka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
In total, 459 airplanes and 246 helicopters, 5,787 unmanned aerial vehicles, 431 air defense missile systems, 11,330 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,144 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 5,901 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 12,267 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
Meanwhile, Russian news sources shared videos showing dozens of Ukrainian military vehicles which were destroyed or damaged during recent battles in Donetsk, Zaporozhye and several other directions. The losses included two Strela-10 short-range air defense systems, three German-made Leopard 2 tanks, an American-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and two American-made Stryker armored fighting vehicles.
In a related development, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), supported by military units, foiled an attempt by a Ukrainian sabotage group to infiltrate the Bryansk region.
“The FSB and attached forces of the Russian Defense Ministry foiled an attempt of a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group to infiltrate the territory of the Russian Federation in the Starodubsky District of the Bryansk Region, which is near the border,” the agency said in a statement, adding that four Ukrainian sabatures were killed.
The FSB said “in addition to foreign-made weapons, explosives, communication and navigation devices, found at the scene of the combat were FPV drones featuring ‘Property of the FSB of Russia’ stickers and other Russian symbols, which suggests there’s a plot to perpetrate provocations and sabotage on the Russian territory.”
Despite recent heavy losses, the Kiev regime will not likely halt the counteroffensive. The upcoming few days will likely witness larger attacks by Kiev forces, especially in the direction of Zaporozhye.
