Israeli Army Drops Leaflets Over Lebanon Warning People Against Approa…
On May 23, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) dropped leaflets over southern Lebanon, the heartland of Hezbollah, warning people against approaching the frontline.
Ali Shoeib, a reporter for the Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese news outlet Al-Manar, shared photos of leaflets which spread right on the frontline, between Shebaa Farms and Kfarchouba hills.
“Think before you move, your infiltration of the border and movement there will subject you to danger, and could lead to your injury,” the leaflets read.
Two days earlier, Hezbollah held a military exercise at a camp near the southern Lebanese town of Mleeta, which is located some 20 kilometers away from the frontline. The group showcased heavy weapons, including multiple rocket launchers, anti-tank guided missiles, man-portable air defense systems and drones, during the exercise.
Hezbollah’s media relations official, Muhammad Afif, said that the exercise was held to celebrate the Resistance and Liberation Day as well as to send a message to Israel.
By dropping leaflets over southern Lebanon, the IDF was likely responding to Hezbollah’s message. The move demonstrated Israel’s willingness to escalate on the front with Lebanon.
The situation on the front has been tense. Last month, the IDF carried out several strikes on southern Lebanon after accusing the Palestinian Hamas Movement, a close ally of Hezbollah, of launching rockets from the region. This was the first such Israeli attack in more than two years.
